Katara is a fictional character from the animated television series Avatar: The Last Airbender, also known as Avatar: The Legend of Aang. She first appears in the pilot episode, "The Boy in the Iceberg".
She is a skilled waterbender, the last of her tribe from the Southern Water Tribe after a Fire Nation raid that took her mother. Katara is compassionate and acts as a maternal figure to the group, particularly Sokka and Aang.
